Wedding Planning Applications for iPhone and iPad

While you know all of your hard work will be worth it on your wedding day, the wedding planning process can certainly be a little stressful! Fortunately, technology has made planning your Salt Lake City wedding easier than ever before with wedding planning applications for your mobile device. Say goodbye to paperwork, bulky bridal magazines and appointment books because these applications for the iPhone and iPad promise to make planning your Salt Lake City wedding a breeze!

Tying the Knot
If you’re engaged, you’ve probably already browsed TheKnot.com for inspiration during the wedding planning process. Luckily, The Knot, Inc. has two free iPhone applications so you can keep the inspiration flowing while you’re on the go. The Knot Wedding Dress Look Book is a great tool for any bride to use to find the perfect wedding gown based on criteria such as body and personality type. The Knot Wedding 911 is your go-to resource to see hundreds of wedding related questions you’ve probably had on your mind already answered by experts at The Knot. Creating your Salt Lake City wedding registry online can be convenient, but do you really know what you’re registering for? Take a more traditional approach and hit the department stores to pick out what you like in person. Gone are the days of the bulky scanner, because with these iPhone applications you can simply take a picture of the barcode and the item you choose will get placed in your registry. MyRegistry.com, WeddingScan, Registry Stop and Gift Registry 360 all have applications that make registering for gifts simple.

Keep in Contact
The iWedding Deluxe iPhone application will be your life saver in order to keep all of your contacts and your budget organized. If you keep all of your contacts saved in your iPhone address book, it’s easy to copy all of them over to the application so you can keep the names and phone numbers of your photographer, rental companies and Salt Lake City wedding venue in one place. You’ll never forget how close you are to your big day with a countdown clock ticking down the seconds, and “The Guide” section uses GPS to locate Salt Lake City wedding vendors nearby.

Newly Engaged? View the Top 10 Things You'll Need To Do First!

So you just got engaged… congratulations! You’re on your way to wedded bliss, but there are a lot of details to cover between now and the day you say “I Do” at your Salt Lake City wedding. It may seem overwhelming at first because it feels like you have to do everything at once. However, there are some things that will take priority. Take a look at our top 10 things to do once you get engaged!

1. Shout It from the Rooftops- Well, maybe not, due to safety reasons, but letting everyone know is the very first thing you’ll want to do! While you may feel like shouting it from the rooftops, there are other fun ways to let your friends and family know. Try a personal phone call, funny e-card, video on Facebook or better yet, in person!

2. Plan an Engagement Party- An engagement party is a great way to gather friends and family together to celebrate this exciting time. It’s also a great time to gather the troops and oftentimes friends and family will offer to help take care of specific duties or will volunteer to be on call for whatever you need! These parties can be as extravagant or as laid back as you like, the main goal should be just to gather together to celebrate this new chapter in your life.

3. Pick a Date- Whether you plan the wedding around your favorite time of year, after you finish another life accomplishment such as school or getting a new job, or when you feel you’ll be financially able to do so- picking the date will help get everything else in order.

4. Set Your Budget- Having an idea of your budget limit will help you set the rest of your budget. Oftentimes things will vary in the price you set in your budget, so be willing to be flexible and move things around as needed to stick within your budget.

5. Find a Reception Site- The reception site can set the tone for your entire wedding, so it’s important to find a place that you love and fits your style. As a premiere Salt Lake wedding venue, we would love to show you around The Woods on Ninth and let you know what makes our venue so unique. We would enjoy the opportunity to work with you to make your wedding day everything you’ve imagined!

6. Get Professional Engagement Photos-Engagement photos are a great idea since you can use them for save the date’s, your wedding website, invitations and wedding guest book. Need tips in finding a professional Salt Lake City wedding photographer? Check out our recent Woods on Ninth blog.

7. Find a Wedding Dress- This may not be as easy as it sounds, but it’s okay to be extra picky when it comes to your wedding dress! Your dress can act as a statement piece and is one thing guests are the most curious about when attending a wedding. This will be a great way to reflect your personality and tone. View our Tips for Finding the Perfect Wedding Dress for Your Figure!

8. Make a Wedding Website- Creating a wedding website is a creative way to keep your guests informed. All of your information about your wedding will be in one place, and since we’re an online society, it’s easy for everyone to access. Give directions, hotel accommodations, registry information, post your engagement photos and even give sneak peeks to your wedding style! Many wedding websites will help you create your guest list, allow guests to fill in their addresses and even RSVP. You’ll want to take advantage of this great tool!

9. Consider a Consultant-You may feel that having a wedding consultant is an “extra” that you don’ t want to spend money on, but they can help smooth out the planning process and offer suggestions you might not have considered. Even if it’s just on the day of your wedding, having a wedding consultant could be just the thing to ensure a stress free wedding day.

10. Start Your Guest List- While you don’t have to decide on your exact guest list right away, it’s a good idea to at least get a rough draft. Gather you and your groom’s potential lists, as well as your parents lists if they have close friends they want to invite. They may even help you remember those family members you haven’t seen in a while! Forgetting a guest can be an embarrassing situation, so you’d rather have lists overlap then forget a loved one.

Armed with these Top 10 To Do’s, you’ll be well on your way to planning your big day! We appreciate you taking time to stop by our Woods on Ninth blog and hope you find our tips helpful! If you have any questions about our premiere Salt Lake City wedding venue or would like to visit The Woods on Ninth, we would be happy to meet with you! Congratulations again and happy planning!

Tips from The Royal Wedding Hair Stylist for Creating Your Ideal Wedding 'Do!

Amidst the swirl of activity surrounding your Salt Lake City wedding, we’re sure you’ve probably heard some of the buzz regarding the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton taking place tomorrow, Friday April 29th! While we’re far from the England’s wedding of the year (and probably decade), we’re seeing waves of royal wedding style hit our shores and influence the summer’s hottest wedding trends.

One question that’s been at the forefront of people’s minds, especially soon-to-be brides is how Kate will wear her hair on the big day. Reports from Miss Middleton’s hair dresser, Richard Ward, note that Kate’s hair will “100% be down and flowy.” Ward continued with the advice that, “Every bride's hair on their wedding day should reflect their look throughout the year. Kate's such a natural girl, so no stuffy up-dos for her.”

Gone are the days where brides feel that the most appropriate wedding hairstyle is some sort of updo. Feeling like a bride while still feeling like yourself is one of the most important elements of your wedding day. You never want to look back at pictures and think about how uncomfortable you were or notice that your wedding day appearance didn’t look anything like “you.”So, how do you decide on which hairstyle will work best for the big day? Here are a three basic things you’ll want to consider.

1. Dress & Accessories- Does your dress have a detailing at the top that you want to be seen? Or are your stunning wedding earrings part of your ensemble that you want to show off? Having your hair up or pulled back will ensure these are showcased. Or perhaps a simple dress or an open back will be enhanced by long, loose waves.

2. Setting
- If your wedding is outdoors or more relaxed, allow your hair to mimic the atmosphere. A fun accessory in your hair may play off your theme or fit in well with your unique tastes. Hosting a formal affair with simple elegance? Try a sleek bun hairstyle. Or, for an extravagant, princess inspired event; the updo may be just the thing!

3. Yourself- Again, make sure that your hairstyle reflects you! If you don’t LOVE what your hairstylist comes up with, let them know! Ultimately, you need to be completely happy with the choice.

Take a peek at this summer's most popular styles!

Your wedding day ‘do is just one of the many fun decisions you can make unique to you and your day! We hope these royal wedding day inspirations help you determine which style is right for you.

As a premiere wedding venue in Salt Lake City, we here at The Woods on Ninth want to provide you everything you need to enjoy your wedding day.

5 Tips for Finding the Perfect Salt Lake City Wedding Photographer!

We hope that planning your Salt Lake City wedding is coming along well and we appreciate you stopping by our blog for the latest tips and advice! As a premiere Salt Lake City wedding and reception venue, we know the amount of details and planning that’s involved in your big day can seem overwhelming at times! In hopes of helping you simplify, our goal is to provide you with useful information on a variety of topics.

Today we want to focus on who will be capturing your wedding day. Finding the perfect wedding photographer is a long last decision, so you’ll want to choose carefully! The images you have from your wedding is something you’ll cherish forever and will want to show your children and grandchildren! While that may seem like a lot of pressure to choose the perfect photographer, keep in mind that you’re choosing the perfect photographer for you. As long as you love their work and feel at ease with them as a person, you can’t go wrong.

There are many great wedding photographers in Salt Lake City, and we can recommend those that our couples have worked with in the past. Here are a few tips for narrowing down your search!

1. Gather Recommendations- Friends, family, your Salt Lake City wedding venue and others can give you great recommendations of photographers they’ve worked with in the past. This is one of the best ways to narrow down your options. Any photographer can have a great website, but knowing people that can attest to their work, communication and professionalism is key to making sure you’re getting the right person for the job.

2. Find Your Style- Once you’ve gathered your recommendations, you’ll want to consider what you like. Each photographer has their own style of shooting and editing pictures. Some photographers prefer very classic and posed photography. If your wedding is very formal and you enjoy the more traditional look of pictures, this is probably what you would want to choose.

A style of photography that has grown to be very popular within the last few years for weddings is a photojournalistic style. This approach desires to capture the candid shots of the wedding and really allows the personalities of the wedding part and guests to really come through each photo. More fun and relaxed, this may be the best choice for you if you want that vibe for your wedding.

3. Narrow Down- Once you’ve determined the style you like, visit the recommended photographers websites to see which ones fit and which ones you can cross off your list. Try to narrow it down to two or three of your favorite photographers.

4. Meet Up- After you’ve picked your top 3, meet up! This is a key element of finding the right wedding photographer. You may love their photos, but in person their personality may make you cringe. Since you’ll be spending a lot of time with this photographer, many include engagement sessions, you want to be sure you get along and that they will really understand who you are and capture your vision in your wedding pictures.

5. The Details- Once you’ve found your ideal photographer, be sure to ask if they have your wedding date open. Photographer’s schedules can fill up fast, especially in the summer, so be sure to plan your photographer well in advance. Next, determine your package and price that you will be paying. Negotiating the price is not usually an option and can be offensive to some photographers. While it may seem expensive, the photographer has to factor in their time, not only on your wedding day, but in editing as well. The photographer needs to make sure their costly equipment and other expenses are covered since oftentimes this is their only source of income. While you do want to consider this an investment, you also don’t want to spend beyond what you are able. Most photographers have a few options so that you can choose one that matches up with your price point.

If you need recommendations on Salt Lake City wedding photographers, feel free to contact us! We’d love to help in any way possible! Of course, if you are still searching for the ideal Salt Lake City wedding and reception venue, please let us know. We would enjoy the opportunity to show you around The Woods on Ninth and answer any questions you may have. We hope to hear from you soon!

8 Ideas for A Ideal, Budget-Friendly Honeymoon!

As one of the premiere wedding venues in Salt Lake City, we understand that there’s a lot of planning (and money) that goes into the wedding day! You want your big day to be perfect and it oftentimes it’s hard to put a price tag on this momentous life event. Here at The Woods on Ninth, we believe that quality is essential and our affordable wedding venue allows you to have the wedding of your dreams without breaking the bank! Your day should exceed your expectations, and not be overshadowed by a financial burden.

Our desire is to, not only help you plan your wedding day, but to be a great resource for all the details and questions you may have surrounding the day you say “I Do!” One thing we love to ask our brides and grooms is where they’re going on their honeymoon. After all the wedding planning, busy schedule leading up to the day and enjoying the company of family and friends, the honeymoon is the perfect way to unwind and celebrate wedded bliss.

We know that honeymoons can quickly become pricey and for those of you who are looking for a budget friendly approach to this great vacation, we’ve come up with a few solutions. Having an inexpensive honeymoon doesn’t mean missing out on a nice getaway; take a look at these affordable options!

1. Ask for the gift of a honeymoon- You can cut down on the money you’re putting out for your honeymoon, or even cover the entire cost by adding your honeymoon to your gift registry! This is becoming more common and is a great way for your guests to feel that they’re giving you a gift that you’ll enjoy immediately. If you’ve already booked your getaway, there are oftentimes items at your resort or wherever you’re staying that aren’t included. Allow guests to give money towards a couple’s massage, a memorable dinner, or horseback riding on the beach! There are many great websites, such as HoneyMoonWishes.com that are user friendly and completely secure!

2. Rely on the hospitality of others- You may know someone who owns a home on a lake, beach or in another country! If not, asking your friends and family if they know of anyone who would be willing to rent out their home or their timeshare is an affordable way to still have your getaway experience.

3. Win a free honeymoon- Affordable is great, but free is even better! There are numerous wedding and travel websites that have promotional contests. Why not try your luck and enter a few? You never know what may happen! Gather a few friends and have a “honeymoon contest entering party.” Everyone can bring their laptops for entering the contest while you provide drinks and hor d'oeuvres! Even if you don’t win, bonding with your friends is always a great experience.

4. Go camping- If shooting stars and the flicker of a campfire is your ideal romantic setting, why not go camping for your honeymoon? Why feel like you have to take a Caribbean or European trip when you and your soon-to-be spouse are perfectly happy campers? You know yourselves better than anyone, so feel free to make the decision that’s best for you. This affordable option may mean being able to have a longer honeymoon, or buying that dining room set you’ve had your eye on for your home!

5. Travel in the off season- Many inexperienced travelers aren’t aware of how much you can save by traveling in the off season. Not only are airfares considerably less, hotels and resorts usually have great deals going on in hopes of keeping their location booked throughout the year. Even if you’re getting married in the busy travel season, planning to take your honeymoon a few months later could be a viable option!

6. Find cheap airfares- Flying can be the biggest expense in your travel, so searching for cheap airfares is the way to go! While it may take a little more time and effort, being willing to search for the best deal can lead to a huge payoff in the end. Being willing to be flexible with your dates, searching on the airlines direct website for deals, or even becoming a fan of an airlines social media sites can prove to be rewarding.

7. Try a super-flexible last-minute honeymoon- While it’s ideal to have your honeymoon planned far in advance, if you’re a risk-taker, hoping to a great last minute deal may be for you! Be flexible on your location and even travel dates, and search for deals on various travel websites anywhere from a month to a week before the wedding.

8. Be a savvy traveler- Not all deals are advertised, but you can come across them if you are savvy on what’s going on in countries. Has there been political unrest or a recent natural disaster? Of course you don’t want to travel during those times, but usually a few months after these countries know their tourist numbers are down and will offer deals to boost the appeal of visiting their country.

Having your ideal honeymoon can happen even on a tight budget! Here at The Woods on Ninth, we want to help you experience your every wish for your wedding day and honeymoon! We hope these tips are helpful as you begin to think about your post wedding getaway! If you have any questions about planning your wedding, or have been looking for a stunning Salt Lake City wedding and reception venue, please feel free to contact us. We would enjoy the opportunity to assist you through each step of planning and ensuring everything runs smoothly on your wedding day!

Wedding Guest's Needs You Don't Want to Miss!

When it comes to your wedding, sometimes the basics are the most overlooked items! In an effort to create a unique and lasting memory for your guest, you end up skipping over the simple things that those attending your wedding actually need. As a premier Salt Lake City wedding venue, our goal is to provide you with an amazing atmosphere to host your wedding and reception, as well as provide you with great information and tips throughout the wedding planning process!

We want to help you ensure that your wedding guests have a great time from the moment they arrive at The Woods on Ninth till the last of your company leaves. Our experienced team will work with your dreams for your wedding to make sure they become a reality, while helping make sure every last detail is covered.

If you’re worried that there might be something you’re missing, we wanted to give you insight into the four basic needs that all of your guests will be expecting.

Drinks: You want to be sure to have plenty of drinks stocked and easily accessible, especially if you plan on having an outdoor summer wedding.

Food: While you may love calamari, your wedding guests may not share the same palette. Be sure to choose food that pleases a wide variety of tastes. If you still want a few creative options, having them included in a cocktail hour is completely acceptable.

Safety: If you choose to have an outdoor wedding, provide your guests with protection from the elements. Having umbrellas readily available in case of a passing shower means there won’t be a mad dash to safety. If it’s slightly chilly, providing inexpensive wraps for the women is a nice touch; while sun screen or bug spray is something everyone is sure to appreciate. Making sure there are cabs on hand towards the end of the reception is a great safety precaution for those guests who have enjoyed a few drinks and don’t feel safe enough to drive home.

Family: Inviting children adds an extra element of energy to the day, but be sure that they’re well cared for and have activities to keep them occupied. Having an on-site babysitter and a kid friendly meal will ensure parents can rest assured that their children are having a great time, which allows them to relax as well!

We hope that these tips help you along in the wedding planning process! As always, we’re here to offer assistance in any way needed and would love the opportunity to host your special day! The Woods on Ninth is a stunning Salt Lake City wedding venue and our staff is committed to making your wedding day a lasting memory for you and your guests!

Top Wedding Cake Questions Answered!

The wedding cake has been a long standing tradition that can be one of the hot topics of conversation at your wedding! As one of the premiere Salt Lake City wedding venues, we understand the importance of each detail and how it can play an important role in your special day! We work with a wide variety of vendors throughout Salt Lake City and can point you in the direction of some of our favorite Salt Lake City cake vendors.

If you’ve just started planning your wedding or just haven’t had time to think about your ideal wedding cake creation, we thought we’d help answer some of the top questions. You want your cake to be, not only be the best tasting, but also very aesthetically pleasing! So, where to you begin? Below are the most asked cake questions and answers as noted by The Knot!

When should I begin my cake baker search?
- Cake bakers should be booked within four to six months before your wedding, but keep in mind, some reputable Salt Lake City bakers are often hired up to a year in advance! Be sure to ask your caterer if someone on their staff is an experienced baker.

How do I find the right baker?
- Here at The Woods on Ninth, we will help connect you with vendors that we’ve worked with in the past. Or, if you prefer to venture out in finding your own baker; you’ll first want to figure out your pastry priorities. Do a little research by asking recent brides whose cakes you like for recommendations and then check out various Salt Lake City bakers' websites and see if there's a cake that looks similar to what you're envisioning. Once you've narrowed it down, make appointments with a few different bakers in order to get a feel for which one fits you best.

Do you have to have a traditional cake topper?
- You can top your cake with whatever you like, or nothing at all. If you have an heirloom piece- perhaps an antique brooch - work with your baker to add it into your top tier. Or, consider using your parent's cake topper as your something old. Look to your locale too. Other ideas: a cascade of ribbons or sugar letters shaped as your new monogram.

How should I display my cake at the reception?
- A round table is perfect for round cakes, but a square design may look better displayed upon a rectangular table. Next, pick out linens that will highlight the color of the cake. Finally, don't hide your wedding cake in the corner. Have it set on risers or near the entrance of your reception.

When are you supposed to cut the cake?
- Traditionally, the cake cutting signifies that the end of the reception is near (that is, the cue for the elder folks to politely slip out), so couples typically wait approximately an hour into the dancing to cut the cake. If you're doing it this way, you could serve an additional dessert with the meal. If you don't want to interrupt your dance party, plan to cut it at the beginning of the reception right after you make your grand entrance while everyone's eyes are on you.

Can I just serve a slice of cake, or do I need to dress up the plate?
- A delicious cake can definitely stand alone. If you're concerned that there might be some cake-haters out there, an added little sweet always makes for a memorable meal. You could have your caterer place a chocolate truffle on each guest's plate, serve raspberry sorbet cups garnished with a sprig of mint, or set out a plate of profiteroles on each table.

Will my cake survive a summer wedding?
- For a summer wedding outside, opt for a heartier frosting like fondant. Another tip: Make sure your cake isn't displayed too early. When the weather is warm, a cake shouldn't be left out for more than two hours. Keep it in an air-conditioned room until it's time for the cake cutting.

How can I keep the top tier fresh for our one-year anniversary?
- Let your caterer know ahead of time that you want to save the top tier. Have them wrap it in plastic wrap, and then bag it in an airtight baggie. (Stay away from aluminum foil, as it might not protect against freezer burn as well as plastic wrap.) When you get home, place your cake into a Tupperware container and then place it in the freezer and it will be ready to eat on your 1st year anniversary!

If you have not yet found the baker for your dream wedding cake, we can help point you in the right direction! The Woods on Ninth staff is committed to making your wedding planning process run smoothly and to ensure that your wedding day is exactly what you’ve dreamed and more! Please feel free to contact us today to set up an appointment to see what makes The Woods on Ninth the premiere Salt Lake City Wedding destination!
